A Project in Doing Something

     I guess those guys were right. No one told me life was gonna be this way.

    As summer winds down, for the first time in my life I find myself without the reliable structure of classes to look forward to. It looks like the next few months will be more or less the same as the last: rotting on my couch, prostrating myself before the job market, my friends scattered to the winds post-graduation. But you know what, I can be in control of my own destiny. I can change my own routine. I can continue to do all that stuff, but also post about it.

    My name is Casey June. I'm an aspiring writer and storyteller, I like movies and tv shows a lot, and sometimes, I have thoughts on things that are too long or not witty enough for a tweet. I'm starting this blog as a creative outlet, a way to keep my writing skills sharp, and a platform to share my great opinions with the world. Expect a little bit of everything, with reviews of things I watch, project/life updates, maybe even the odd piece of original fiction or poetry sprinkled in there. All in all, this whole thing is a project in doing something, which I find I greatly need at this point in my life. Stick around to find out how long I can actually commit to this for.

The Bobke Summer Movie Challenge

 I've found myself in a bit of a cinephile era in the past few years, due to both my academic elective choices and the new friends I found through them. Short Story: All Dolled Up

 As I plug away at other writing projects, I figured this might be a good spot to dump some old short stories I wrote for classes. Here's one inspired by the Fleming Museum's collection of creepy dolls:      All Dolled Up By Casey June      The first thing I notice about the doll is her eye. It is hollow. Both of them are, but the eye on the right has an extra chip taken out of the face, an uncomfortable touch of asymmetry. The doll’s dark interior clashes with the gleaming porcelain of its skin, though even that is starting to yellow and peel. I scratch my own cheek at the thought of it as if to check that it is still whole and intact. The doll doesn’t seem bothered by her unpleasant appearance.
